Research Interests
'Natural' behaviours—facial expressions, gesture, intonation—and how they might be integrated within a pragmatic theory using the notions of 'showing' and 'meaning' (I am developing my PhD into a book on this topic); relevance theory and lexical pragmatics; the evolution of language and communication; the philosophy of Paul Grice.
I currently work with Deirdre Wilson, Robyn Carston, Patricia Kolaiti and Rosa Vega-Moreno on an AHRB-funded research project: A Unified Theory of Lexical Pragmatics.
Music
I have a musical alter-ego (or he has an academic one). To learn more about him (me, us) click here.
