I am interested in L2 speech perception and production. My current PhD research project is on the use of visual cues in the perception of English vowels by L2 learners with Spanish (Chilean) as L1. I would like to find out whether non-native speakers of English (L2 learners) can benefit from the visual information available to English vowels and whether using visual cues can be learnt via training. Studies in the past have trained L2 learners in the use of visual cues to perceive some English consonants but not all learners have shown to benefit from this training modality (i.e. using visual information). There are also individual differences that might be linked to the extent to which learners can attend to visual cues.
I have an MA in Spanish Linguistics (UdeC, Chile) and an MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Lancaster University, UK.
