Promoting Independence in Dementia

pride-team-june-14

Dementia can take away more than just their memory and daily living skills. The "Promoting Independence In Dementia" (PRIDE) programme find ways that people with dementia can keep control of their own lives, stay healthy, contribute to society and feel valued and valuable.

Dementia is an international priority and the PRIDE programme comprises one of six major projects funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) to research dementia care in the UK that add up to £20m over five years.

PRIDE is formed of a number of individual programmes that use existing studies looking at lifestyle and health and also conduct interviews with people with dementia and their carers to find out what contributes to helping people stay independent when they experience memory problems.

UCL is proud to be in partnership with universities in the UK, Europe and Brazil, as well as a collaborators across the professional care sector.
