Progression to Russell Group Universities: Teachers' Conference

The Russell Group is an association of 24 research-intensive universities from across the UK. Members have worked together to offer two free one-day conferences providing information for state schools and colleges about opportunities, entry processes and requirements for Russell Group universities. Teachers and advisors will have the opportunity to find out more about Russell Group universities, meet with representatives from the 24 institutions, and attend workshops on helping your students with personal statements and writing a teacher's reference.

There will also be a keynote address covering the importance of students' subject choices with regards to their university options, and providing advice on the best post-16 subject combinations for a wide range of university courses, and for undecided students who need to keep their options open. Vocational qualifications will also be discussed, as well as new qualifications, changes to existing qualifications and grading systems.

The final session of the day will provide top tips for progression to Russell Group universities, summarising the most important actions for schools and colleges. We present this in terms of a calendar for the year, and highlight where support is available forom Russell Group universities. 'Top tips' cover working with Year 9s choosing GCSEs and Year 11s choosing post-16 study, through to Year 12s researching university choices and Year 13s embarking on the application process.

The conference will run at two locations, with the same programme for each session. The conference itself is free of charge, with lunch and refreshments provided.
