Teachers and Education Professionals

UCL has long been committed to working with schools, teachers and other educational organisations in order to better enable fair access to life-changing higher education opportunities.

Working with teachers and other educational professionals within schools is integral to the success of our work. Teachers are key partners in raising awareness of UCL and  have a crucial role to play in facilitating fair access to opportunities and helping to improve social mobility.

We offer professional support, working with the experts of the UCL Institute of Education to ensure that CPD opportunities are innovative and practical for every stage of a teacher's career.

Activities for teachers

Enabling Social Mobility through Education (ESME)

Enabling Social Mobility in Education (ESME) is a free, online CPD programme for school-based staff, providing schools and colleges with online information and resources relating to HE information and guidance, and the role of HE in the social mobility agenda.

Teacher Masterclasses

UCL offers a variety of Teacher Masterclasses designed to support the teaching of specific areas of subject knowledge or areas of the curriculum. Additionally we also run sessions to help and support gift and talented pupils in a variety of subjects. These masterclasses are delivered at your school at a time that suits you and can also include partner schools.

Professional Learning Network

The UCL Professional Learning Network (PLN) will draw together academics, researchers and teachers to explore pedagogies and tools that aim to close the attainment gap and support social mobility through education. Members of the PLN will be invited to attend special events including regular ‘Teacher Takeaway’ twilight CPD sessions, teacher conferences, and also to share online resources.

Teacher Summer School

Now in it's fourth year, the summer school provides participating teachers with an opportunity to engage with academics from across UCL, receive guidance to support students through applications and admissions processes, and gain an insight into student life at UCL.

Teacher Taster Days

Teacher Taster Days are subject specific days run by a department, designed to aid teachers in teaching their subject in school and to bridge the gap between Key Stage 5 and degree level study. In addition to receiving uo-to-date admissions information, these interactive events, run by UCL academics, include hands-on workshops, Q&A sessions and networking opportunities.
