UCL Sutton Scholars (Years 8/9)
UCL Sutton Scholars is a long-term academic enrichment programme for highly able Year 8 and 9 students from non-selective inner London state schools.
Students must meet our widening participation demographic selection criteria, and must be academically high achieving. It is delivered by UCL in partnership with the Sutton Trust, and piloted in 2013-14.
Please note that we are no longer accepting applications for our Year 8 or 9 2015 cohort. Information about applications for academic year 2015-16 will be made available here in late 2015.
Year 8 programme
The Year 8 programme includes three day programmes in the February and May 2015 half terms and a three-day summer school in August 2015, plus launch and celebration evenings for students, their families and teachers.
I am now even more open minded about learning. I especially enjoyed the lectures, as I now have more experience with university life. I feel more educated and ready for when school opens again, so thank you for that!

Year 9 programme
The Year 9 programme runs for four Saturdays in January and February 2015 and will have a strong focus on developing academic skills. It will be followed by a GCSE skills workshop day in the May half term, plus launch and celebration evenings for students, their families and teachers.
Teachers CPD event - June 2015
As part of the UCL Sutton Scholars programme the UCL Widening Participation Office will be running a CPD day for Year 7 to 11 teachers (all subjects) at schools participating in either the Year 8 or the Year 9 UCL Sutton Scholars programme.
Sessions will focus on excellent practice in teaching highly able students from disadvantaged backgrounds to ensure they can meet their potential in applying to selective universities in the future. The day will include sessions led by experts from the UCL Institute of Education and speakers from the Sutton Trust. Lunch will be provided.
Bookings will open in March and the event will take place on Monday 29th June from 10am to 3pm.
