Event Information

When is the Summer School?

The Summer School lasts for five days, from Monday 20th - Friday 24th July 2015.

Where is the Summer School?

The Summer School will take place in the Roberts Building at UCL.

Who will get a place on the Summer School?

The Summer School is open to students with little or no family background of Higher Education from non-selective state schools in the London boroughs.

How much does the Summer School cost?

The Summer School is free of charge.

Application Guidelines

When do I need to apply?

The closing date for applications is Friday 13th March 2015.

What grades do I need?

The Summer School is open to students who are predicted at least 5 A* - A grades at GCSE.

When will I hear about my place?

Decisions will be made once we have received parent/guardian confirmation and the teacher reference.

We hope to advise you of the outcome of your application in April/May.

What if I don't get a place?

If we aren't able to offer you a place we will be able to put you on the waiting list, in case anyone cancels.

What if I accept a place and then change my mind?

If you change your mind about attending the Summer School, please let us know as soon as possible so we can allocate your place to someone on the waiting list. Please email Louise Sung at louise.sung@ucl.ac.uk.

Attending the Event

What time do I need to arrive?

The Summer School starts at 9.30am every day. Please make sure you arrive on time!

What time will I leave?

The Summer School finishes at 4pm every day, except Friday, when there are presentations and a certificate ceremony until 7pm. Your family will be invited to the ceremony.

What if I can’t go to every day of the Summer School?

We ask that students commit to attend the Summer School for the whole week. You will get the most out of the Summer School if you are able to attend every day. If you need to miss part of a day please contact us to see if this will be possible. Please email Louise Sung at louise.sung@ucl.ac.uk.

What if I am ill during the Summer School?

If you are ill and can't come to the Summer School, please ask your parent or guardian to call us on 020 3108 1088. If you are ill during the Summer School we will call your parent or guardian to make arrangements for them to collect you.

Preparing for the Event

What should I bring with me to the Summer School?

Please don't bring valuables to the Summer School as we won't be able to provide a secure place to keep them. You will get a welcome pack with a note book, pen and pencil on the first day of the Summer School. Don't forget to bring your travel card!

How will I get to the Summer School?

We will send you a free travel card for the week of the Summer School. To plan your journey to UCL, use the Journey Planner on Transport for London's website: http://www.tfl.gov.uk. Use UCL's postcode WC1E 6BT as your destination.

What should I wear?

You can wear casual clothes to the Summer School, whatever you feel comfortable in. We ask that you are presentable though - no low-cut clothing or clothes with slogans that could cause offence. 

Will I need any money?

You won't need to bring any money to the Summer School. Travel, lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Site Facilities

What food is available at the university?

There will be refreshments (juice, water and biscuits) available at the morning and afternoon breaks. At lunch you will either get a voucher to spend in the college refectory or receive a packed lunch. Any special dietary requirements can be catered for including Kosher, Halal, lactose intolerance etc, but if you have any questions, please email Louise Sung: louise.sung@ucl.ac.uk

Is there a prayer room at the university?

Yes, there is a contemplation room available for students to use.
