UCL Sutton Trust Summer School supported by the Wolfson Foundation

From 4th - 8th August 2014, UCL will be running a three-strand residential summer school in partnership with The Sutton Trust and supported by the Wolfson Foundation. These strands will cover Biosciences, English and Natural Sciences.

The UCL Summer Schools will give you a taste of university life in the heart of London. You will be taught by top academics, experience lectures, seminars and laboratory workshops  (depending on your subject choice), and will be supported by UCL undergraduate mentors. You will gain an invaluable insight into studying at university, and will develop the skills needed to succeed in your chosen subject.

There are 90 places available on the Summer Schools (30 for each subject strand) and you will meet students from the other strands during the evening activities.

Students will stay in University of London halls of residence in central London, a short walk away from the campus.

Biosciences Strand

This strand is suitable for students who are interested in the following subjects at university:

  • Biochemistry
  • Biotechnology
  • Biological Sciences
  • Human Sciences

English Strand

This strand is suitable for students who are interested in the following subjects at university:

  • English Literature

Natural Sciences Strand

This strand is suitable for students who are interested in the following subjects at university:

  • Astrophysics
  • Biomedical Sciences
  • Earth Sciences
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics and Statistics
  • Medical Physics
  • Biology
  • Physics

Academic programme

Through the Summer School you will gain experience of studying and living at a university in the heart of London. 


You will be taught by leading academics and researchers, and UCL undergraduate mentors will work with you during the week. At the end of the week you will deliver a group presentation, that has been prepared through the course of the Summer School, to share what you have learnt with the rest of the Summer School students.

Other activities

Alongside the academic programme, you will take part in a programme of activities to provide advice and guidance on higher education issues. These sessions will include:


• Making a successful UCAS application
• Student finance at university
• Personal Statement workshop


Each evening you will take part in a social programme, designed to show you the fun side of university life. You’ll get to know your fellow students and have the opportunity to explore some of the varied attractions that London has to offer.
