UCL Investigates...Summer School
This Summer School is for students in year 12 who are considering university study in London. The programme will enhance your observation and analysis skills through the study of objects and collections from UCL’s museums.
There are 40 places available on the UCL Investigates... Summer School. It is taking place from Monday 27 to Friday 31 July, 2015. Students will stay in UCL’s Ramsey Hall, which is in central London, a short walk away from the UCL campus.
UCL has four museums open to the public and owns outstanding collections of objects and specimens that cover a wide variety of disciplines, reflecting the range of the university's academic work.You can find out more about UCL's museums and collections here.
The UCL Investigates...Summer School has two strands. You can choose which strand you would like to apply for. The strands available on this summer school are:
UCL Investigates… Natural History
Using UCL’s Grant Museum of Zoology and related London collections, you will learn about the field of Natural History, through hands-on sessions led by experts in the field of Natural History and related disciplines.
UCL Investigates… Arts and Humanities
From learning about ethics of human display in UCL’s Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology to understanding London’s social history from The Foundling Museum, this strand covers a range of topics that will be of direct interest to you if you are interested in studying the arts, humanities, or social sciences at university.
In the evenings there will be a programme of social activities taking place. You’ll get to know your fellow students and have the opportunity to explore some of the varied attractions that London has to offer. Examples of activities that could be on offer include a visit to a West End Show, a quiz night at UCL, and a trip up The Shard.
How to Apply
Who is Eligible?
The UCL Investigates... Summer School is open to students (home UK only) currently studying in Year 12 or equivalent at maintained schools or colleges in the UK.
Priority will be given to students who meet all or most of the following criteria:
- Will be the first generation in their family to attend university.
- Have achieved at least 5 A/A*s at GCSE.
- Be on target to achieve UCL’s minimum grade requirements for the course that they are interested in applying to.
- Come from neighbourhoods with low overall progression rates to higher education.
- Are taking relevant subjects in relation to the subject that they are applying for.
- Attend schools or colleges with a low overall A level (or equivalent) point score.
- Live outside of Greater London
