Object London Summer School
UCL Object London Summer School
The UCL Object London Summer School is for students in year 12 who are considering university study in London. The multidisciplinary programme will enhance your observation and analysis skills through the study of objects and collections from UCL’s museums.
There are 30 places available on the Object London Summer School. It is taking place from Sunday 22 June to Friday 27 June, 2014. Students will stay in UCL’s Ramsey Hall, which is in central London, a short walk away from the UCL campus.
UCL has four museums open to the public and owns outstanding collections of objects and specimens that cover a wide variety of disciplines, reflecting the range of the university's academic work.
UCL uses our museums and objects a lot in our teaching and this summer school will give you a good introduction to object based learning. You will have the opportunity to learn in UCL's museum spaces, as well as in other museums in London, to find out more about London's Past, Present, and Future.
You can find out more about UCL's museums and collections here.
The multidisciplinary programme is designed to enhance your academic knowledge, teach you skills that will be useful for university study, and teach you valuable observation and analysis skills.
You will also be taught key debating skills and, at the end of the week, will put them to good use in a friendly team debate on topics that you have learnt throughout the week!
The final sessions for the Object London summer school are still in development but they are likely to include sessions that focus on History, Archaeology, Zoology, and Geography, as well as other disciplines. You will also get the opportunity to visit UCL’s Open Day as part of the summer school programme.
In the evenings there will be a programme of social activities taking place. You’ll get to know your fellow students and have the opportunity to explore some of the varied attractions that London has to offer. Examples of activities that could be on offer include a visit to Shakespeare's Globe, a quiz night at UCL, and a trip up The Shard.
