Introduction to Studio Practice: Slade School of Fine Art Summer School

This week long course offers a unique experience of Drawing, Sculpture, Photography and Creative Thinking. This course will enable students to gain some expert tuition in art and some experience of creative thinking and making, over a sustained period of time. Students will be working in an art school context that emphasises the development of an individual programme of work within the studio.

The Summer School aims to instil confidence in students regarding working independently outside of their normal learning environment, and also to raise awareness of the mindset and discipline required for degree level study in Fine Art. This requires a degree of responsibility in both individual verbal expression through discussion with peers and mentors, as well as visual creative development through the generation of new works. You will learn how to develop a project from idea to completion and to structure time effectively.

Critical thinking will be encouraged through the introduction of contextual studies relevant to the studio activities through lectures, seminars, and a portfolio review at the end of the week to be used for students’ oral presentations, feedback and evaluation. The work undertaken by students during the courses will be documented.
