Eligibility

Pre-16 events (Years 5 - 11)

Students must be attending a non-selective state school in the UK, and priority will be given to students who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Will be the first generation in their family to attend university;
  • Have parents from non-professional occupations;
  • Are currently eligible for free school meals;
  • Come from neighbourhoods with low overall progression rates to higher education;
  • Come from neighbourhoods with high levels of deprivation;
  • Are from an ethnic group which is underrepresented at UCL (currently Black African and Black Caribbean);
  • Are from gypsy and Traveller communities;
  • Are in, or have lived under local authority care;
  • Are estranged from their family;
  • Are a refugee;
  • Have caring responsibilities for a family member;
  • Have a disability.

Post-16 events (Years 12 & 13)

Students must be attending a state school in the UK, and priority will be given to students who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Attend or have attended a non-selective state school;
  • Will be the first generation in their family to attend university;
  • Have parents from non-professional occupations;
  • Were eligible for free school meals in Year 11;
  • Come from neighbourhoods with low overall progression rates to higher education;
  • Come from neighbourhoods with high levels of deprivation;
  • Are from an ethnic group which is underrepresented at UCL (currently Black African and Black Caribbean);
  • Are from gypsy and Traveller communities;
  • Are in, or have lived under local authority care;
  • Are estranged from their family;
  • Are a refugee;
  • Have caring responsibilities for a family member;
  • Have a disability.

For post-16 events, please also consider the following academic criteria:

  • Applicants must have achieved at least five A*-B grades at GCSE;
  • Applicants must be likely to achieve a minimum of ABB at A level or at least 34 points at IB (please note that for subject specific activity students must be on track to meet the degree programme's minimum entry requirements);
  • Applicants must be taking at least two subjects from UCL's list of preferred A levels.
