UCL Teacher Summer School 2018

 'What Works in the Classroom?'

Interested in narrowing the gap between research and practice?

Want to work with UCL to generate your own classroom evidence?

The shift towards evidence-informed practice heralds exciting possibilities for school-based practitioners, and the Teacher Summer School will focus on supporting teachers to critically engage with research and develop their own evidence-informed classroom practice.

The Teacher Summer School programme will explore three distinct strands:

  • Using evidence to inform practice
  • Interrogating evidence
  • Teacher as researcher

The event will feature lectures, workshops, and panel discussions, which aim to give teachers the confidence to utilise, challenge and generate their own research in schools to raise attainment and support student progression.

Keynote speakers will include Professor Stephen Gorard from the University of Durham, Dr Lesley Gutman from UCL, and a workshop led by Mark Quinn from the London Centre for Leadership in Learning.

Teachers attending the Summer School will also have the opportunity to apply for the UCL Teacher Action Research Project (TARP), which is supported by a fully-funded professional development programme led by the London Centre for Leadership in Learning.

The Teacher Summer School is free to attend, and aimed at teachers working in non-selective state schools and colleges, and priority will be given to those that have the lowest progression rates to selective higher education. Funding for school cover costs is available, and accommodation for delegates who are not within a commutable distance to London can also be provided.

The UCL Teacher Summer School is a two-day event and will run from Wednesday 27 – Thursday 28 June 2018. Applicants need to be able to commit to attending both days in order to be considered for a place. Applicants will also need to provide details of a nominee from their Senior Leadership Team to support their application.

To apply please complete the online application form, if you require any additional information please email wp.teachers@ucl.ac.uk.

Applications will close on Friday 20th April 2018.
