UCL Sutton Scholars Year 8-9 Programme

UCL Sutton Scholars is a free two-year academic enrichment programme delivered in partnership with the Sutton Trust, for Year 8-9 students who attend non-selective state schools.

The programme develops independent research, group work, presentation and writing skills to support academic attainment. Students also explore their GCSE and A Level choices, including facilitating subjects, and consider their future study options.

Please note: students must meet our eligibility criteria, and be academically high achieving. Applications are open for Year 8 pupils and Year 9 is through re-enrolment.

For more information about the UCL Sutton Scholars Programme, please see the 2017-18 programme brochure.

Please note: applications for the 2017-18 Programme ARE NOW CLOSED

Sutton Scholars students

The Year 8 programme is a series of Discovery Days held at UCL’s main campus during half terms in February and May 2018, plus a three day non-residential summer school in August 2018. Students will attend a range of academic sessions in new subject areas to introduce them to possible degree subjects, receive information and guidance to help guide them through school and towards further and higher education and develop key skills needed to succeed at school and university.

Themes for previous Discovery Days have included: ‘History of Medicine’, ‘Languages & Culture’, ‘Mission to Mars’ and ‘Ancient Worlds’.

All Year 8 participants that complete the Year 8 Sutton Scholars Programme will be invited to re-enrol for the Year 9 programme. This programme includes winter Skills Days and a four-day non-residential Easter School. The content of events in Year 9 are themed on Skills Days that focus on supporting attainment and study skills, such as problem solving, writing, research and public speaking. This programme will finish with students completing group and individual project work.
