UCL Horizons GCSE Programme

Applications for 2018-20 are now open! To apply, please fill out our online application form.

UCL Horizons is a free two-year programme for academically able GCSE students who attend state schools in or near Greater London.

Throughout Years 10 and 11, students will get the chance to develop key skills for success at GCSE, attend exciting, interactive academic sessions and hear from our UCL student ambassadors on what it's really like to study at one of the world's best universities.

Students must meet our eligibility criteria. Please check before making your application.

For more information, please see our online brochure.

The Programme

Our Year 10 programme helps students achieve their full potential at GCSE by giving them the chance to perfect their study skills, as well as introducing them to exciting new methods of teaching and learning. Students will be given the opportunity to take part in academic sessions at a world class university and also to hear from current students about what studying at a university like UCL is really like.

The Year 10 programme includes academic study skills and speaking skills Saturday sessions from September to March, and concludes with a non-residential summer school.

New students are recruited in September of Year 10 and re-enrol for Year 11.

The Programme

Our Year 11 programme focuses on attainment at GCSE and beyond. We know how important this year is for students, so we focus on giving them the tools they need to succeed, whether that's learning to make a revision timetable, finding out what kind of learner they are or just getting a quiet place to study.

We will also be looking at Next Steps, with A Level advice, careers sessions and hands on visits to UCL departments, showing where good GCSEs can take you.

We run a survey of GCSE results and post 16 subject choices in late summer.

The programme concludes with a Year 12 transition evening in September, where students learn about the Year 12 opportunities at UCL and receive guidance on the UCAS process and transition to post 16 study.
