History (SSEES) BA - Yekaterina Litvak

Student profile: Yekaterina Litvak

Degree: History (SSEES) BA
Second year
Subject area: Russian and East European History

History has always fascinated me, as I believe it is the ground of our present and our future. UCL is well known for it's History programmes, with a great variety of historical subjects and courses. In particular, SSEES provides the ability to really focus on researching about East European History, within the frame of World Histories. What I enjoy most about my degree is the ability to choose courses that would really interest me, may it be through combination of historical courses of other departments within UCL, or within the University of London. I particularly enjoyed courses that combine politics, media and culture. The privilege of being taught by experts in the field and reading their books in the same time only makes it more fascinating. After completing my degree, I hope to get involved in the world of diplomacy or politics.

London is the heart of the globalized world we live in. Meeting people from all over the world, learning from their culture has definitely enriched me as a student and as a person. This city provides endless opportunities in any path you pursue.

The great thing about UCL is the access to several libraries, which hold an impressive collection of books, journals, and electronic resources that are essential for studying. The staff is always there to help, the library is open 24/7, and it is comfortable to find a place to study quietly.
