Linguistics BA - Natasha Griffiths

Student profile: Natasha Griffiths

Degree: Linguistics BA
Third year
Subject area: Linguistics

Linguistics at UCL is particularly prestigious as many of our lecturers are leaders in their fields. This is incredibly exciting as they often present their own current research! I want to work in Advertising and being in London meant that work placements and internships were very accessible which will be all-important in my applications for graduate schemes. Furthermore, as Linguistics is such a versatile degree, what I have learnt about how communication differs between ages, classes and cultures and can be easily applied to my future career. The UCL Careers staff go above and beyond to help you succeed. As well as reading my applications, they were approachable and gave me an indispensable confidence boost. I would urge all UCL students to make use of this service.

I really thrive on being busy. As well as attending lectures, I am the Founding President of UCL LingSoc and have a part-time job as a UCL Student Ambassador. Through these roles, I have met some of my closest friends and really feel a part of the UCL community. On weekends, my favourite past time is exploring London. Though I know the area where I live and work like the back of my hand, one stop further on the tube and you can find yourself in a completely new environment – it's such an exciting city to be a student in.

My experiences at UCL have been crucial in preparing me for my post-education studies. Though I am sad to be nearing the end of my time here, I am excited about the doors that being a UCL graduate has opened for me. However, I will always be proud to be a UCL alumni and thankful for all the opportunities university gave me.
