Environmental Biology BSc - Jasmine Husseini
Student profile: Jasmine Husseini
Degree: Environmental Biology BSc
Subject area: Biological Sciences
Like many prospective students, I was not entirely sure what I wanted to do at university. I am passionate about the life sciences but was not exactly sure which area I wanted to study. The Biological Sciences programme was perfect for me because the first year provides a general introduction to a wide range of topics, giving me the opportunity to find out what aspects of biology I enjoy most. After the first year, the programme offers the option to specialise in a subject such as environmental biology or genetics. UCL is also a great place to be and is situated in one of the most beautiful and liveliest cities in the world.
I've really enjoyed the flexibility of my degree. I have been able to attend not only biology-related lectures but lectures from the Geography and Anthropology departments – really allowing me to broaden my knowledge and understanding of the subject. We also do a lot of fieldwork in biology with trips to places like Spain and Scotland, revealing the practical and outdoor side of the subject.
I would love to work in conservation or any kind of organisation that tries to improve lives in harmony with the environment, such as an NGO committed to sustainability. I would also like to go into teaching at some point.
