Biochemical Engineering MEng - Jasmin Samaras

Student profile: Jasmin Samaras

Degree: Biochemical Engineering MEng
Fourth year
Subject area: Biochemical Engineering and Bioprocessing

What I have achieved in my time at the UCL Department of Biochemical Engineering has been invaluable and I have learnt a lot about, not just the subject, but also aspects like the importance of teamwork and how to apply my knowledge outside of education. Upon completion of my Master’s, either straight from graduation or after taking a year out, I plan to study for a PhD or an EngD to further enhance and sharpen my skills I have already learnt within UCL. Eventually I would like to embark on a career in research as from the beginning this is where I endeavored to end up.

London is unlike no other city I have visited. There’s an energy and a buzz in London that I found truly inspiring and drove me to want to achieve success. UCL has everything a student needs to both achieve the best you possibly can in your degree and to have the most pleasurable university experience. I lived in Ramsay Halls for my first year at university and I can honestly say it was one of the best experiences I have ever had.

I have loved my time at UCL. I feel like the university has so much to offer it’s students on top of a first-class education. My department, and I’m sure others are the same, is very close knit and I think of my peers more as friends than acquaintances. The teaching staff are incredible and an inspiration and yet are so down to earth you instantly feel comfortable with them which I believe is so important to get the most from your studies.
