Modern Language Plus (French and History of Art) BA - Emma Greenlees

Student profile: Emma Greenlees

Degree: Modern Language Plus (French and History of Art) BA
Third year
Subject area: European Languages, Culture and Society

I had always taken a real interest in languages and international relations, but also wanted to have two types of study. History of Art is much more research and essay-based, whereas French is more literature, grammar and speaking-based. This gives a really great balance and all-round learning experience. I chose UCL because of its London location, excellent international reputation and also because of the facilities relating to both my subjects. Paris is only two and a quarter hours away on the Eurostar, the Institut Français is a few stops away in South Kensington, and the art galleries are exceptional here.

My favourite courses have not been the ones I expected. The more I learn from the programme, the more I enjoy it. I have really enjoyed the French literature courses both in the first and second years (Reading French Texts and Exploration of Self and Form in particular).
