Biomedical Sciences BSc - Benjamin Strawbridge

Student profile: Benjamin Strawbridge

Degree: Biomedical Sciences BSc
Third year
Subject area: Biomedical Studies

In my first year, as part of the UCL Transition Programme, everyone was assigned a mentor from the degree programme, and had weekly meetings with their mentoring group during the first term. These sessions were really helpful for settling in and getting to know other people on the programme.

Throughout my time at UCL, my Personal Tutor has been invaluable. She has always been supportive, reassuring and encouraging, and has always made time for me whenever I’ve asked to see her. During my first year, I had fortnightly group sessions with her, where she helped us develop academic skills, and often gave us extra time to make sure we understood important principles from lectures.

The really surprising thing I found when I came to UCL was how friendly everyone was, staff and students alike. In lectures, lecturers seem delighted by questions at the end, keen to share their enthusiasm for their subject. Programme tutors and academic staff are friendly and caring, and although they may be busy, they will always make time to see you and respond to emails. Students are equally amiable, and older students are often more than happy to talk about their experiences or give advice.
