Economics BSc - Alice Lawson
Student profile: Alice Lawson
Degree: Economics BSc
Subject area: Economics
At school I was mainly interested in mathematics and studying economics relates mathematics to business and the real world environment. The UCL programme is a BSc unlike at most other universities which was one of the pivotal factors in my decision. I enjoy the flexibility, especially in the third year, to choose courses that I am most interested in. In particular, the game theory course is one I have chosen this year after experiencing a taste of it within the microeconomics course last year.
I hope to be accepted on to the Msc Management course at UCL for next year and then work within investment banking. Over the past summer I interned in credit trading at Barclays Investment Bank which was a valuable experience with regards to working in this industry in the future.
I work part-time at the Clubs and Societies Centre reception desk. This job is very flexible so I can fit working around studying easily. This year I took over as president of the netball club. I have obtained useful skills such in time management and leadership which will aid me when I enter the job market as a graduate. I have found I am able to balance the time commitment of being on a committee for a club whilst playing, working part-time and also studying.
