Student life

Campus and facilities

All you need to fulfil your potential is here at UCL, right at the heart of one of the world's great capital cities.

Academic resources

At UCL we're constantly upgrading study and collaboration spaces to meet students' needs. Our most recently opened space is in the iconic Art Deco Senate House.

Study spaces

We are continually investing in our teaching and learning spaces, and have a range of study spaces available to you in our libraries, hubs and in Students' Union UCL. The recently opened Cruciform Hub incorporates space for seminars and project work, individual study, and a computer cluster.

The Student View

Valerie Ngow

"One of the main reasons I chose to study at UCL was for its location and its reputation. Outside of my degree I've had the opportunity to be part of a variety of things within UCL - there is never a shortage of cool new things to try and fun events to attend. Then there's the whole of London to explore and experience.

As part of the Pedal Progress project, we are designing and building an electric bamboo bicycle for the professional working class and urban commuters. The bicycle is designed to assist the cyclist, reducing the amount of work the cyclist would need to exert - you don't want to get to work in the morning sweaty and already exhausted! I got involved in this project as part of my Fourth Year Design Project. I was interested in exploring the use of bamboo. It is such an underrated material with so much potential. Also, the design of the bicycle has remained un-changed for a very long time and I was keen on challenging myself in rethinking what we could do with it."

UCL Library Services

With more than two million books and subscriptions to more than 35000 journals in a combination of electronic and print formats, UCL Library Services gives you access to a vast range of resources across all subject areas. We have 18 specialist libraries, with older material available on demand from our store outside London, and our valuable and historic material is housed in Special Collections.

UCL Museums & Collections

Our Museums and Collections are part of what make UCL so special - ranging from geology to Egyptology and taking in pathology, science, zoology and an Art Museum along the way. All our museums are open to the public as well as being used in teaching.

UCL academic facilities (YouTube)

A playlist showcasing some of the many academic facilities available to students and the general public, including the UCL Grant Museum of Zoology and the Bartlett and Slade School shows.

UCL Centre for Languages & International Education (CLIE)

Our comprehensive centre offers courses for credit in Arabic, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin and Spanish at up to seven levels.

English for Academic Purposes and Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) courses are also available.

We also run courses for students planning to study and work abroad, courses for those who do not meet UCL's modern language requirement and in-sessional English language courses for international students.

To learn a language to enhance your studies, you can take an evening class in one of 17 languages, though these are not credited to your degree programme.
