Results Day 2017 explained
A level Results Day is approaching fast and we are looking forward to welcoming you to UCL. Although it is an exciting time, it can also be confusing as you try to work out what to do next.
To make things easier for you, we have compiled a selection of the most commonly asked questions about A level Results Day.
You can also find information about Results Day on the UCAS website.
If your question is not answered below then please get in touch on +44 (0)20 3370 1215 and a member of the UCL team will be happy to help.
- I am holding an unconditional place to study at UCL. What do I do next?
Congratulations! We hope you are looking forward to joining us. You will be sent an email towards the end of August inviting you to start the online enrolment process. In the meantime you can visit our dedicated 'New Students' website for information about starting your studies at UCL, the services available to you and Welcome Week events.
If you are an international student then please visit http://www.ucl.ac.uk/iss/orientation for guidance about our International Student Orientation Programme.
- There is no decision on my UCAS Track or UCL Applicant Portal. What does this mean?
If you cannot see a decision then is likely that we are missing results from you. Please give us a call on +44 (0)20 3370 1215 for further guidance on the information we need from you.
- UCL is my firm choice university, however I want to be released into clearing. Who should I contact?
You will need to email email@example.com, clearly stating you want to be released into clearing, with your UCAS ID and full name. We will be receiving a high volume of emails on results day so it would be very helpful if you could put the subject title of your email 'release into clearing request'. We will then be able to prioritise your request.
- Does UCL take mitigating circumstances into account?
UCL will only accept the results you are awarded. We strongly advise that you or your school contact your exam board(s) to make them aware of any circumstances that could have affected your exam performance. They will then able to take this into account when awarding the final grade.
- I didn't meet my offer conditions but I am getting a remark. Do I need to let UCL know?
If you meet your offer as a result of a remark then please do get in touch by email firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone on +44 (0)20 3370 1215. Your updated result(s) should come through UCAS. Please remember that we will need to have received confirmation of your new grade(s) by 31 August 2017. We will not be able to consider remarks after this date.
- I will be out of the country on results day. Can my parents, guardian or nominated person discuss my application with you?
We will not be able to discuss your application with any third parties due to the regulations around data protection. If you will be away over the results period then you will need to provide a signed letter confirming the name of the contact you are happy for us to discuss your application with. We are happy to accept a scanned version of a signed letter by email to email@example.com.
- I have been accepted by UCL but I want to change my degree programme. Is this possible?
The Undergraduate Admissions team will facilitate requests for programme changes where possible, however students should be mindful that some programmes could be oversubscribed and we cannot guarantee that they will be able to change even if they have met the entry requirements for the new programme.
You will need to email firstname.lastname@example.org to request a change. Remember to include your UCAS ID, full number, programme you currently have a confirmed place for and the name of the programme you would like to change to.
- I have been accepted by my firm choice university, however I've changed my mind and really want to go to UCL which is my insurance choice. I have met the conditions of the offer so can I come to UCL instead?
When a student is accepted by their firm choice university their insurance choice becomes invalid, even if the student has met the conditions of their insurance offer. Unfortunately you are unable to swap your offer replies at this stage, however, if you are eligible for Adjustment and UCL has Adjustment vacancies on the programme you wish to study please contact us as soon as possible on +44 (0)20 3370 1215.
- I have been accepted by UCL but would now like to take a gap year.
You will need to email your request to defer to email@example.com, including your UCAS ID, full name and reason why you wish to defer. The Admissions team will then update your record and you will need to log into UCAS track to check and accept this change.
- Will UCL be going into Clearing or Adjustment this year?
This year UCL will have limited places available on some undergraduate programmes through UCAS Adjustment. These are for well-qualified applicants who have done better than expected, meeting and exceeding conditions of their firm choice. Programmes with places available through Adjustment will be listed on this website at 6pm on Wednesday 16th August.
You can find more information about Adjustment on the UCAS website.
We will not have any places available through Clearing.
