UCL Undergraduate Preparatory Certificates
The UCL Undergraduate Preparatory Certificates (UPCs) are
for international students of high academic potential who are aiming to
gain access to undergraduate degree programmes at UCL or other top UK
universities but whose education systems in their own countries do not
offer qualifications suitable for direct admission.
These intensive and challenging courses, run by UCL's Centre for Languages and International Education (CLIE) combine the study
of two academic subjects, usually alongside Academic English and Research and Academic Skills. All
teaching is delivered by UCL staff within the university.
UPC students are registered as UCL students, meaning they have access to all the academic, welfare, social and cultural resources we have to offer. UPC students are also supported with their UCAS application and our aim is to ensure that on completing the course, they can confidently embrace the demands of university study and life in the UK.
The Student View
" The teachers are always there willing to help you - not only with academic matters - and make you feel welcomed.
"Studying for the UPC was an amazing experience. It is an exciting and challenging year that helps international students adapt to studying in the UK. The teachers are always there willing to help you - not only with academic matters - and make you feel welcomed. I also made some really good friendships while on the UPC.
I'm studying at UCL with a scholarship from the Ecuadorian government. It's helped me focus on studying and enjoying London instead of having to worry about finding a job. I entered the UPC to be able to study Biomedical Sciences. I'll continue on this track until I get a PhD for research in the immunology area."
