Scholarships and Funding
Wellcome Trust Vacation Scholarships
|Important Information for all Applicants|
The Wellcome Trust Vacation Scholarships are intended to provide promising undergraduates with 'hands-on' research experience during the summer vacation and to encourage them to consider a career in research. The Trust runs its own central selection for these scholarships.
Recipients must be undergraduate students registered at a university within the UK or Ireland (including UCL) who:
- are in the middle year of a first degree studies (i.e. not the first or last year) and registered for a basic science, dentistry or veterinary degree;
- are between the end of the second year and the end of the penultimate year of a medical degree.
Scholarships are not available for the completion of student projects as part of the normal degree course.
Value: Benefits and Duration
Each award consists of a weekly stipend of for a maximum of 8 weeks over the summer vacations. The weekly stipend rate is for scholarships for placements at UCL is £190 (research expenses are not provided).

Applications must be submitted on behalf of the student, by the project supervisor.
Additional Information to assist with your application -
Where the application form requires a second signature by the "secretary of institution/finance representative"; this signature can be provided by UCL Research Administration.
Research Administration do not require a pFACT costing but will require a signed Research Approval Form (available from http://www.ucl.ac.uk/finance/secure/research/general/documents.htm).
Departments are asked to see http://www.ucl.ac.uk/finance/secure/research/pre_award/pre_award_contacts.htm to find the Research Finance Officer for their department.
Once a scholarship has been awarded, Research Administration will set up individual research accounts to which the expenses can be posted.
