Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust Undergraduate Bursaries

Important Information for Students

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants for the bursary should:

  • normally have been resident in the United Kingdom and be the son or daughter, spouse, widow or widower of a commercial traveller, chemist or grocer, according to Leverhulme's definitions
  • be enrolled on any full-time first degree programme at UCL.

For further details, please see the Leverhulme website.

Selection Criteria

Selection is made by the Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust.

Value: Benefits and Duration

Bursaries will generally be awarded for the balance or whole duration of an undergraduate programme but not for periods prior to the granting of the award. The continuation of a bursary is dependent upon the student's continuing his/her full-time registration, satisfactory academic performance and there being no material change in the recipient's financial circumstances.  The maximum value of any bursary is £3,000 per annum, but the sum awarded may be adjusted downwards according to individual circumstances, need and the funds available.

Application Deadline and Procedure

Application forms must be accessed via Leverhulme's website.

Completed application forms must be submitted to UCL's Student Funding Office by 20 February 2013 and 23 October 2013 and not to the Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust. UCL will countersign each form and then ensure that this reaches the Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust.

Applications must reach the Trade Charities Trust by the closing dates of 1 November or 1 March (application forms should reach UCL seven working days prior to these deadlines). Application Forms must be completed by the students and countersigned by an appropriate officer of the institution (e.g. UCL Student Funding officer). It is hoped to be able to notify institutions of the outcome of applications by the end of November and the end of March respectively. Declaration and Justification of financial need forms must be completed and signed by the students' parents.

Selection and Notification of Results
