The UK Government's Foreign and Commonwealth Office, in partnership with UCL, offers annually a number of British Chevening Scholarship awards. The aim of these scholarships is to bring to the UK present and future leaders, decision-makers and opinion-formers from countries with which the UK's economic relations are expected to develop. Nationally, over 2,300 new scholarships are offered annually. The scholarships may cover up to two years' study, although this may be extended if progress is satisfactory and funding is available. The scholarships may cover either all or part of the total study costs.
Eligibility
The scholarships are normally awarded to students intending to pursue Master's degree or MPhil/PhD programmes. Occasionally they are awarded for shorter, vocationally-oriented programmes of between three and six months. Students must already be established in a subject area or profession and be from countries with which the UK has, or is likely to develop, strong economic links.
Application Procedure
Applications should be made to the British Embassy or High Commission in an applicant's own country of origin. The applicant must be resident in their country of origin at the time of application. The closing date for applications is normal 12 months before the start of the academic year for which the award is sought.
