Important information for All Applicants

Margaret Richardson Scholarship

The Margaret Richardson Scholarship was founded in 1987 under the will of Mrs Margaret E. A. Richardson. 

A total sum of £5,000 is available to prospective MPhil/PhD students in German.  Candidates must have an upper second-class degree or equivalent in German or a related field of study to enable them to undertake research work in this subject. 

The scholarship may be awarded as one £5,000 scholarship or split into two awards of £2,500 each at the discretion of the selection panel. The selection criteria is academic merit and/or potential.

Fielden Research Scholarship

A scholarship of £1,000 is available to MPhil/PhD students in German Language and Literature. Candidates must have graduated, or be in the final term of their research programme. The selection criteria is academic merit and/or potential.

Deadline

The application deadline for the above scholarships is 25 May (or the next working day, should the 25 May fall on a weekend or public holiday).

Application and Information

Applicants should write a letter of no more than two A4 sides explaining why they are applying for the award, giving particulars of their research work and interests. Letters should be sent by post or email to:
