Information for Prospective Students

Science Without Borders

UCL is proud to have been selected as one of the participating universities in the Science without Borders scheme (SwB).  SwB is a Brazilian Government scholarship programme which aims to send up to 101,000 Brazilian students to study engineering, mathematics, science, technology and creative industries at top universities around the world.

SwB will see the UK welcome up to 10,000 Brazilian students over the next four years from September 2012. Students can apply for one of the following:

  • a sandwich undergraduate course
  • a sandwich PhD course
  • a full PhD in one of the broad research areas supported by the programme

How to apply

Science without Borders is administered in Brazil by CAPES and CNPq.  For information on how to apply for a scholarship, please visit the Ciencia sem Fronteiras (CsF) website

Within the UK, information and support is also provided by the UK International Unit

Applying to UCL

Undergraduate students

Currently participating departments:

Students wishing to undertake a sandwich undergraduate year at either of the above departments must apply for a scholarship via the CsF website by their specified deadline. If you have any queries, please contact Dr Marco Federighi, Faculty Tutor of Engineering Sciences.

PhD students

We are an institution recognised for funding by the Brazilian government for applicants wishing to apply through the scheme who hold an offer to study a PhD with us.

Currently participating departments:

Students wishing to undertake a sandwich PhD or full PhD within the above department must apply for a scholarship via the CsF website by their specified deadline.  If you have any queries, please contact Chris Russell, PG Research Officer, Department of Anthropology.

If you wish to undertake research at any other department at UCL, we may be able to accept you under the SwB scholarship programme. You should contact your prospective department to confirm that you have funding in place. They will then be able to advise you on your accommodation options and any additional costs.
