Physics mature students' masterclass
This masterclass was designed for prospective mature students who are interested in studying physics at university, providing a two-hour glimpse into the exciting world of physics at UCL.
There was a split format of an introductory talk, explaining some of the cutting edge science that is going on at UCL, followed by a practical session. The introductory talk introduced students to the quantum world inhabited by electrons, quarks, neutrinos and even the Higgs boson.
In the practical session students worked in groups to use mini particle accelerators to measure fundamental properties of the electron, such as its charge and mass.
