Travelling to UCL

London is well-served by transport links, both for travelling to and from London from the UK, Europe and the wider world, and for getting around the city.

UCL is located in the Bloomsbury district at the very centre of London. There are easy connections to UCL from London's global hub airports at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted and you will find London's extensive public transport system is convenient and easy to use.

To plan your journey to UCL, including walking and cycle routes, please use their Journey Planner. Please note that Tube fares are considerably cheaper with an Oyster Card, or by using a contactless payment card.

Please note that as booking for the open day is essential, we recommend you book on to the event before making any travel arrangements.

The closest Tube stations to UCL's Gower Street site are Euston Square (Hammersmith and City, Metropolitan and Circle lines), Warren Street (Northern and Victoria lines), Euston (Northern and Victoria lines) and Russell Square (Piccadilly line).

UCL's Gower Street site is served by many Transport for London bus routes.

Buses travelling from north to south stop in Gower Street, immediately outside UCL's main gate, while those travelling from south to north stop outside Warren Street station, about five minutes' walk from UCL. Services to these stops include route numbers: 10, 14, 24, 29, 73, 134, 390.

London has many mainline rail stations. Most of these are a short journey away from UCL, with the stations at Euston, King's Cross and St Pancras being within easy walking distance.

Trains from London serve destinations across the UK. By being flexible and booking well in advance you will find rail travel offers excellent value for money.

Eurostar

St Pancras station is the London Eurostar terminal. Just a short Underground or bus ride, or a few minutes' walk from UCL, this offers you direct high speed rail connections to Paris (2hrs 15 mins) and Brussels (1hr 50 mins), with onward connections to many European destinations.

Below are directions to UCL from London's five main airports.

There are bus and taxi alternatives from each of the airports. Taxis will be expensive, possibly over £50. Use only registered metered taxis from taxi ranks and confirm the approximate price before starting the journey.

If you are planning to use the Underground for part of your journey, try to avoid the peak periods of 8-9am and 5-7pm. Also, please be prepared to carry your luggage up escalators.

From Heathrow Airport

By London Underground (Piccadilly Line)

To Russell Square or King's Cross/St. Pancras. Journey time 55 minutes.

By Heathrow Express

To Paddington station. Journey time 15 minutes. See Heathrow Express website for more information and fares.

From Paddington take the London Underground (Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan or Circle Lines) to Euston Square. Journey time 10 minutes.

By coach

From Gatwick Airport

By train

Option 1: Gatwick Express to Victoria station. Journey time 30 minutes. See Gatwick Express for more information and fares. From Victoria take the London Underground (Victoria Line) to Warren Street. Journey time 10 minutes.

Option 2: First Capital Connect to St Pancras International station. Journey time 45 minutes. For more information and fares see First Capital Connect. From Kings Cross/St Pancras underground station take the London Underground (Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan or Circle Lines) to Euston Square. Journey time five minutes.

From Stansted Airport

By Train

Stansted Express to Liverpool Street station. Journey time 45 minutes. See the Stansted Express for more information and fares. From Liverpool Street take the London Underground (Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan or Circle Lines) to Euston Square. Journey time 10 minutes.

By Coach

From Luton Airport

By train

Take the shuttle bus from the airport to Luton Airport Parkway station. From there, catch a train to St Pancras. Journey time 45 minutes. For more information and fares see the First Capital Connect website.

From Kings Cross/St Pancras underground station take the London Underground (Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan or Circle Lines) to Euston Square. Journey time 5 minutes.


From London City Airport

By Underground

Take the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) from London City Airport Station to Canning Town. From there, catch the London Underground to Warren Street (Jubilee Line, changing to the Victoria  Line at Green Park). Journey time 40 minutes.
