Information for Prospective Students
UCL Undergraduate Preparatory Certificates are for international students of high academic potential who are aiming to gain access to undergraduate degree programmes at UCL or other top UK universities, but whose education systems in their own countries do not offer qualifications suitable for direct admission.
The UCL Undergraduate Preparatory Certificates website gives a guide to the minimum national high school qualifications for entry. Suitable applicants will be contacted and asked to take an entrance test and interview before being offered a place on the course.
General undergraduate entry requirements
UCL accepts A-levels, International Baccalaureate (IB), and a number of other qualifications for direct entry to its undergraduate programmes. To find out whether UCL accepts qualifications from your home country please select your country and view the ‘Entry requirements’ tab.
Entry requirements by undergraduate programme
For the entry requirements for individual degree programmes, please select your programme from the undergraduate prospectus.
UCL’s International Graduate Preparation Courses (GPC) are designed for international students who are planning to study on a graduate degree programmes at UCL or at another UK institution. These intensive courses are designed to: prepare students for academic study at UCL and other top UK universities; fulfil UCL's English language proficiency requirements for degree programme entry; satisfy the English language requirements for some courses at other UK universities.
course participants will already hold a conditional or unconditional offer of a
place on a degree programme; others may still be in the process of applying for
a place on a graduate programme. The following courses are available at the UCL
Centre for Languages & International Education:
UCL International Pre-Master’s (September – June or January - June)
General entry requirements for taught master’s degrees
In the UK the grading system for undergraduate degrees is as follows:
- First-class honours (1st class)
- Upper second-class honours (2:1)
- Lower second-class honours (2:2)
- Third-class honours (3rd)
UCL entry requirements for graduate level programmes are usually listed with reference to the UK grading system. However, there is a guide to the equivalent grades from universities in other countries on the Information by country pages of the UCL website.
