How To Apply: Visiting Research Student - Independent

Visiting Research Students are registered for a PhD at an overseas university. You can spend a period of 3 to 12 months at UCL undertaking research which is complementary to the Doctorate/PhD project at your ‘home’ university.

Visiting Research Students will need to complete the Graduate Application Form and return it to:

International Office
University College London
Gower Street
London
WC1E 6BT
UK

All documents must be in English. Translations of documents should be certified as true and original. Only complete applications should be sent to UCL. The absence of any of the required documents will delay the consideration of your application.

Please note that you should try to submit your application at least 3 months in advance of your proposed start date.

References

You must submit with your application form, in signed and sealed 'Letter of Reference' envelopes, two UCL reference forms about your suitability to pursue your proposed programme of study from two referees, at least one of whom should, if possible, be a teacher acquainted with your academic ability.

The reference forms are available as part of the Graduate Application Form.

Transcripts/Diploma Supplement

An original copy of an official transcript/diploma supplement in English, containing details of all the subjects or courses studied, the marks that you obtained, the qualification that you were awarded (if already complete) and the date of your studies, should be enclosed in the sealed envelope provided and returned with your application. Please do not send an irreplaceable document. In the case of those educated in the UK, where their university is unable to provide a transcript/diploma supplement, a list of the subjects or courses studied and the marks obtained may be provided on the application form.

Laws applicants please note: official transcripts/diploma supplements for all relevant qualifications, including those awarded in the UK, are required. Please use the envelope provided.

If you hold General Medical Council/General Dental Council registration you are not required to send an official transcript. Please provide your registration number instead.

Disability and Ethnic Origin Monitoring Form

Please complete this and submit with your application form. The disability and ethnic origin monitoring form is available as part of the Graduate Application Form.
