Greek and Latin (Classics)

UCL's Department of Greek and Latin is one of the top-rated Classics departments in the UK. With specialists in the fields of literature, philosophy, historiography, linguistics and papyrology, our expertise ranges from the earliest beginnings of the classical world to its influence in the modern world.

The department is located close to some of the finest resources for the study of the classical world in Britain: not only does UCL have an excellent classics library, but the British Museum, the British Library, and the Institute of Classical Studies are all only a few minutes' walk away.

Our wide range of courses in language, literature, philosophy and culture will enable you to develop skills in all areas of the discipline. You will also benefit from our close collaboration with UCL's Department of History and Institute of Archaeology.

Most courses are taught in lectures or classes. Assessment is usually a combination of coursework and final examination. Alternative assessment for semester-only students is always available. Courses are open to all students, though prerequistes, particularly in language studies, may apply to some courses.
