Offer Holder Information
The following links will guide you in relation to what you need to do once you have received an offer from UCL.
What do I do next?
Congratulations on receiving an offer to study at UCL as an affiliate student.
The first thing you should do is check the terms of the offer, and return the offer reply form to indicate whether or not you will accept the offer. The offer reply form should be attached to the offer email you received, and a hard copy will follow in the post. You may return the offer reply form via email (to affiliatestudents@ucl.ac.uk) , fax (0044 207 679 3001) or post (UCL Study Abroad Team, University College London, Gower Street, London, WC1E 6BT, UK).
If you hope to stay in UCL or Intercollegiate accommodation, you should also complete a housing application form. Full details to follow below.
Later in the year you will receive important information about joining UCL so please keep checking your emails for further information.
Accommodation
Places in UCL student accommodation are allocated by the UCL Student Residences team to students who have firmly accepted an unconditional offer to study at UCL.
To apply for student accommodation, please complete the application form. Complete all sections of the form and leave nothing blank (except for box 4 which does not apply). You will find your student number at the top of your offer letter. Please ensure you clearly write a contact address where a housing offer pack could be sent over the summer months.
Make sure you have returned your offer reply form (to the Study Abroad Team) and submit your housing application form (to the Residences Office) by the deadline: 31 May for September starters and 30 November for January starters.
You should return your completed housing application form to:
UCL Student Residences
University College London
117 Gower Street
London WC1E 6BT
UK
Students are usually informed in late-August to early-September whether or not their application for UCL accommodation has been successful. For more information about the student residences and how to complete the application form, please visit the student accommodation website or contact UCL Student Residences at residences@ucl.ac.uk.

Visas and Immigration
After you have firmly accepted your offer to study at UCL, we will contact you around the start of June with information regarding visas. You will be asked to reply to confirm your details and specify which visa you will enter with. A CAS statement will be generated and emailed to students who reply specifying Tier 4.
If you would like further information in the meantime, please see our visas and immigration pages.
Preparing for Course Registration
All course registration occurs on arrival at UCL as part of the orientation programme. You will meet with your Affiliate Tutor in your main admitting department to approve the courses you are interested in. All courses are subject to availability and Course Tutor approval.
All students must take a full course load of modules (2.0 UCL course units per semester) and under and/or overloads are not allowed. Remember that you must take at least 50% of your courses within your main admitting department (first department listed on your offer letter), at least 25% of your courses from within your joint admitting department (where applicable) and the remainder as electives from across the university.
Whilst we cannot guarantee any courses prior to arrival, you can prepare for the course registration process before you arrive. You may like to consult the Study Abroad Guide for lists of courses available to you, as well as check the individual departmental websites for further information and course descriptions.
In addition, you can create an online custom timetable to check for timetable clashes on a selection of courses you are interested in taking.
We recommend you also have a list of back-up courses you would like to take in case your first choices are not available.
Your Affiliate Tutor will help you with Course Selection and checking for timetabling clashes during the orientation programme as well, however the more preparation you do prior to arrival, the quicker this process will be.

International Student Orientation Programme
We will be holding an International Students' Orientation Programme (ISOP) the week before term officially begins. The Orientation programme is not compulsory, but attendance is strongly recommended, and there is no charge for attending.
The programme will offer new Affiliates the opportunity to settle into their new environment and meet their peers prior to term starting. A variety of different sessions will be offered including:
o A formal welcome
o Meet with your Affiliate Tutor and register for courses
o Identity Check at UCL to complete the enrolment process
o Collect your student ID card
o Enrol with support services e.g. Health Service and Library
o Receive guidance on how to study successfully at UCL
o Receive welcome handbook to guide you through your first week
o Tour of the campus and surrounding Bloomsbury area
o Learn about living in London as a student
o Meet key staff who can help you throughout your studies at UCL
o Opportunity to meet other new students
Further details will become available over the summer, and we recommend you log on to the ISOP webpage then to find out more about the programme and let us know whether you will be attending.
Dates 2011/12: September starters: September 21-23, 2011
January starters: January 5-6, 2012
Living Expenses
In addition to the tuition fee costs, students need to bring with them sufficient funds to cover the cost of living, e.g. accommodation, meals, local travel, books and entertainment. Estimates of how much money you will need may vary considerably, as the lifestyles and circumstances of individual students differ. For a single, affiliate student studying for a calendar year, an estimated average would be in the region of £220 to £245 per week. This should be considered only as a guide; some students may find they can live within this allowance, yet others may find it insufficient to meet their expectations.
You could also check out the Living Costs pages on the UCL website which gives an idea of costs associated with day-to-day life in London.
Surviving in London on a limited budget is easier than you might think, and there are student reductions for local travel and many social, cultural and leisure events.

Disability and Dyslexia Services
At UCL we have a dedicated Student Disability Services who provide the necessary support and information for students with specific learning difficulties.
If you have a specific learning difficulty and are coming to UCL as an affiliate student, we recommend that you register with Student Disability Services once you have accepted your offer so that the appropriate support can be arranged for you.
Please email them with your name, student number, programme and details of your specific learning difficulty.
Our Student Disability Services offers an assessment service providing students with an assessment report which can then be used to determine whether or not extra time would be required in examinations. If so, students are then granted extra time ranging from 5 to 20 minutes per hour. Some students find that they are given less extra time than they have had before, and some are given more. When time is reduced, most students are pleased to know that the effects of their SpLD are less marked than they might have thought.
