This application form should be completed by students who wish to take part in a UCL Exchange, or if your Study Abroad Tutor has directed you to complete the application for a departmental exchange.

The deadline for applications is 7 December 2012.

Students should be aware that completing this application does not guarantee the provision of a study abroad placement. Your nomination will be subject to approval by the host institution, various student welfare bodies as well as your Study Abroad Tutor and the Study Abroad Team.

Please indicate your choice of exchange institutions, in order of preference. If you are applying for an English-speaking destination, please give at least two choices.

Please be advised that all exchanges are subject to change and opportunities may be withdrawn without notice.

Applicants for Caltech and Columbia must be maintaining an academic standard equivalent to a 1st class degree.

Please note that it is not possible to select both Caltech and Columbia.

Section 4 - Supporting Documents

In addition to completing this form, you will need to ask two members of academic staff (tutors/lecturers) to provide academic references in support of your application to study abroad.

Please give the names, departments and contact details of two tutors or members of UCL teaching staff who have agreed to write academic references for you below*. The Study Abroad Team will then contact them to ask them to complete an online reference form.

*If you do not feel that you are able to give two suitably personal academic references, please also supply a supporting character reference from one of the following: current/former employer, teacher from school/college, or supervisor in extra-curricular activities.

Language Requirements

If you are applying for a non-English-speaking exchange, you will need to provide the Study Abroad Team with formal evidence of your language skills. This evidence can be in the following forms:

i) an additional reference from your language tutor, to be emailed directly from your referee to study-abroad@ucl.ac.uk

or

ii) a certificate or other formal document confirming your proficiency in the relevant language. please either submit a hard copy to the Study Abroad Team or upload a scanned copy to this form.


Section 5 - Notes

To be considered for any of the UCL exchange programmes administered by the Study Abroad Team, you should be maintaining an academic standard equivalent to a 2:1 (upper second class degree).

Applicants for Caltech and Columbia must be maintaining an academic standard equivalent to a 1st class degree.

Applications for all of the exchange programmes are competitive. Final selections will be made in the spring term and you will be notified by email of the outcome of your application by the end of January. In some cases it may be necessary to attend a short interview.
