Faculty of Life Sciences

Life Sciences

The information in this section applies to students from the following departments:

  • Biological Sciences
  • Phonetics & Linguistics
  • Psychology

In order to study abroad you must be registered for, or transfer to, the four-year MSci Biological Sciences (International Programme) or BA Linguistics (International Programme). Psychology students can study abroad as part of the three-year BSc Psychology programme.

The period of study abroad will be one year and it will take place during the third year of your four-year programme (NB. for Psychology students the year abroad takes place during the second year of your three-year programme).

Information Sessions

The Study Abroad Team will organise information sessions during the autumn term for students who are interested in studying abroad. At these sessions you will be presented with information about the benefits of studying abroad and the opportunities open to you as a UCL student. You will also have the opportunity to speak to members of staff from the Study Abroad Team and ask them any questions you may have about studying abroad.

Study Abroad Fair

The UCL Study Abroad Fair takes place in November each year and is a good opportunity for students to find out more about the different universities at which they could study.

Students attending the fair will have the opportunity to view prospectuses and other information from UCL's partner universities, speak to UCL students who have recently returned from a period of study abroad, and meet exchange students from UCL's partner universities who are currently studying at UCL.

Study Abroad Approval Form

You must register for the study abroad programme by completing and submitting a Study Abroad Approval Form to the Study Abroad Team by the end of the autumn term of your second year (NB. for Psychology students, the autumn term of your first year).

Study Abroad Approval Forms will be available to collect from the Study Abroad Team from November 2012. Completed forms must be returned to the Study Abroad Team no later than Friday 7 December 2012.

Applications for Erasmus Exchanges

If you would like to be considered for a place on one of the Erasmus exchanges open to students from your department, the Study Abroad Approval Form is the only form which you will need to submit to the Study Abroad Team. Erasmus exchange places will be allocated by your department.

UCL Exchange Applications

If you would like to be considered for a place on one of the UCL exchanges open to students from your department (these are exchanges which are coordinated centrally by the Study Abroad Team, and which are typically open to students from more than one department), in addition to the Study Abroad Approval Form you will also be required to submit a UCL Exchange Application Form to the Study Abroad Team by Friday 7 December. See here for details.

With the assistance of the Study Abroad Team, you will prepare your application to the institution at which you wish to study abroad. Application deadlines will differ according to the institution you are applying to - the Study Abroad Team will provide you with further details during the spring term.
