Shun-liang Chao is a PhD student of Comparative Literature (English and French) from Taiwan.
Shun-Liang writes "I was
offered a full PhD scholarship by a private research university in the
US, but I decided to come to UCL because UCL has excellent programmes
in arts and humanities, and because UCL is located in Bloomsbury, the
intellectual and cultural centre of London . My experience of UCL so
far has met most of my expectations. First, my supervisors have been
very helpful; most of the academic staff members I have met are more or
less supportive and friendly. Moreover, UCL's location is not merely
unrivalled but perfect: the British Library and the British Museum
are within 10-minute walk; there are also London University's central
library and the libraries of other London University institutions in
Bloomsbury; there are (humanities-related) conferences or seminars or
talks going on every week in Bloomsbury. I have visited major
universities in global cities such as Paris, Berlin , and New York and
have not yet found any of them whose location is more intellectually
exuberant than UCL's. Last but not least, UCL is truly international: I
have met students from all over the world and some of them became my
good friends."
