You should research your funding options thoroughly. Many scholarships and awards are listed on UCL’s Scholarships site.
Many other awards, including studentships, are held at department level and even with specific academics. It is therefore important to check with the department, division or research group that you are interested in. UCL attracts students from almost 150 different countries and has dedicated resources to support international students to get the most out of their time at UCL.
All international students are invited to a comprehensive orientation programme at the beginning of their studies to help them get off to the best possible start.
Students from outside the European Union that have not studied in London before are also guaranteed a place in halls of residence. This is subject to meeting the required application deadlines.
Three-quarters of UCL’s student accommodation is within a fifteen minute walk from UCL’s central London campus. The University of London’s accommodation office can also help you to find appropriate private accommodation, including house-shares with students with similar interests.
UCL has the best student to academic ratio in the UK, 8.9 to 1 in 2010. As a result UCL offers a unique and richly rewarding experience including academic challenge, personal development and acquisition of personal and transferable skills within a stimulating and supportive environment.
UCL students are selected on the basis of their talent and potential. Around 35% of UCL students come from outside the UK and there is a cosmopolitan, friendly and inclusive atmosphere throughout the university. Hundreds of student societies and events make it easy to meet new people with similar interests.
A leading UK institution, Natwest Bank, reported in 2010 that London is the most cost-effective student city in the UK. Students receive many discounts living in London, including a 30% discount on travel, subsidised food on campus and discounts in shops.
