Students who need to resit examinations
If you have not been able to progress or, if in your final year or at the end of your programme, you have not graduated, and are required or allowed to resit your modules, you will need to find out what your options are in terms of your immigration status and your right to remain in the UK. You should also check the Academic Regulations for students and your Departmental Handbook for further information on academic matters.
If your current leave to remain expires prior to you resitting your examination(s) you have three options:
- If you are a taught Master's student, you can make arrangements to resit your examinations in your home country at an approved examination centre. You should contact the Examinations Section (examinations@ucl.ac.uk). Staff there will be able to advise you as to how to arrange this.
or
- When your visa expires you must return to your home country and you will have to prepare for your examinations there. You can re-enter the UK on a Student Visitor Visa for the purpose of resitting your examinations. In order to be eligible to re-enter the UK on a Student Visitor Visa you will need to obtain a Statement of Student Status from Student Records. Please contact Student Records at studentstatus@ucl.ac.uk allowing five working days for your request to be processed. A statement can be collected from Room G9, Ground Floor, in the South Wing, Monday to Friday between the hours of 10.00 - 16.00. If you cannot collect the statement, you should indicate this when making your request to studentstatus@ucl.ac.uk, providing an address for despatch.
Further information about Student Visitor Visas can be found here.
or
- If approved by the Department and Faculty, you can re-enrol as a UCL student in order to retake some or all of your failed module(s), rather than just resit the assessment(s)/examination(s). In this case you will be required to pay tuition fees for the module(s) of your programme that you are retaking. These will be charged at a proportionate rate to your full programme fees. Re-enrolment is only once per year of study. If you fall into this category, Student Records will issue a 'Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies' which you will need to extend your visa, which will allow you to remain legitimately in the UK. You will be required to remain fully enrolled as a student at UCL and in regular contact with your department.
Please note: If you would like to pursue this as an option, please make contact with your department immediately, as late or retrospective enrolments are not permitted.
