Early Modern Studies

The Centre for Early Modern Exchanges (EME) is dedicated to the study of the diverse cultural, historical, economic and social exchanges between early modern states from 1450 to 1800. Our work focuses on how complex intercultural interactions began to create frontiers between countries, literatures and identities in this period.

EME offers a rich interdisciplinary research culture, with conferences, workshops and seminars led by international experts.Over 50 early modernists from across UCL are associated with the centre. Our expert research training provides insight and understanding into the theoretical and methodological issues affecting early modern studies.
