Restorative Dental Practice MSc
A flexible, part-time, five year Master’s programme that enhances students’ ability to provide high-quality and comprehensive restorative management for the majority of patients. Students are able to assess, plan and provide quality treatment at an advanced level, forming a sound foundation for the restoration or rehabilitation of a compromised dentition in their own clinical practice.

What will I learn?
The programme aims to enhance the students’ knowledge and clinical applications of restorative dentistry, develop the skill of critical reading of published literature, and develop skills in research methodology and presentation. In addition, a working knowledge of dental materials will be developed in order to enable graduates to relate the use of modern materials to their clinical application.

UCL Eastman Dental Institute is the largest postgraduate dental school in Europe and has a reputation as one of the world’s leading academic centres for dentistry. As part of UCL – London’s Global University – the Institute welcomes UK and international students.
This programme is delivered by the Institute’s department of Continuing Professional Development. The department is located separate to the main Institute site, with dedicated facilities including high-specification skills laboratories.
The programme is taught by eminent specialists on the Institute’s staff and complemented by respected visiting clinicians and teachers. Students benefit from first-class facilities and access to a wide range of clinical cases and techniques.
Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits. The programme consists of six core modules (120 credits) and a research dissertation module (60 credits).
Each student undertakes a research project culminating in a 10,000–12,000 word report. Other options include the writing up of a systematic/critical review of the literature or a critical appraisal of a comprehensive patient treatment case.
Teaching and Learning
The programme is delivered through seminars, lectures and practical sessions in state-of-the-art skills laboratories, providing a highly supportive learning experience. Assessment is through practical, clinical and oral examinations including written papers, presentation of clinical cases and a dissertation.

All applicants must normally hold an approved dental qualification and have a minimum of two years' clinical experience post-qualification.
Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate that they meet the required standard by either having recently passed one of the UCL recognised English language tests at the ‘good’ level, or through previous work or education experience in English. Overseas applicants must ensure they have appropriate immigration status to attend the required contact days in London.
In addition, all applicants must be in clinical practice in the UK or EU while they undertake the programme and must hold registration with the General Dental Council (or EU equivalent).

Most graduates return to enhanced careers in general dental practice. A small number progress to full-time Master's programmes, sometimes with specialist training. One recent graduate progressed to a part-time PhD. Others develop a part-time career in teaching.
