Chemical Engineering

We are one of the top research and teaching chemical engineering departments in the UK. Core research activities focus on the following themes: Energy and CO₂; Sustainable Manufacturing; Health and Environment. The EPSRC has awarded the department £5 million towards the establishment of a Centre for Nature Inspired Engineering at UCL. The department hosts the Centre for Grid Scale Energy, and the UCL Electrochemical Innovation Laboratory, which focus on the commercialisation of energy and CO₂ technology development. All our graduate programmes are accredited by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE).

Alumni View

"The contacts I made through UCL Medical Physics & Bioengineering, in which I studied, provided numerous opportunities for career progression. I chose to follow a career in industry, but remaining in academia or working in healthcare were also very plausible options."

Dr Ben Price

Applied Physicist, Nikon Metrology, 2011

Subject: Medical Physics and Bioengineering, Faculty: Engineering Sciences

Student View

"I applied for graduate study at UCL because of its great reputation, and because it had recently invested in developing a new department in biodiversity research. This seemed a great opportunity to be part of this new department in its infancy."

Alison Fairbrass

Degree: Urban Sustainability and Resilience EngD

Subject: Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering, Faculty: Engineering Sciences
