Endodontology (Advanced Training) MClinDent
A full-time, two year (or part-time, four year) Master's programme designed for students from outside the European Union. It matches the Specialty Training programme and is designed to enable students to meet training requirements in their home country. The programme has a strong clinical bias and aims to develop the cognitive, psychomotor and interpersonal skills required to enable independent practice of endodontics.

What will I learn?
The programme teaches a broad and deep understanding of endodontology, enabling students to apply appropriate clinical strategies from first principles. Mentored coaching specifically targets development of independent learning skills, to enable long-term achievement of mastery. There is focus on problem analysis, options appraisal, rational management selection and technical/clinical/surgical skills development to enable proficiency in endodontics and related restorative and oro-facial interfaces.

This programme is delivered by the Institute’s unit of Endodontics. The unit was the first independent academic endodontic unit in the UK and has acquired a worldwide recognition for its academic and clinical teaching outcomes and research output.
The programme’s students benefit from a comprehensive curriculum, opportunities for self-directed learning, a clinically relevant laboratory techniques course, emphasis on integration of theoretical and clinical aspects, and prioritised reading recommendations allowing an individual approach to learning. The broad self-learning approach enables the pursuit of individual academic interests.
Students undertake modules to the value of 360 credits. The third year of study is non-credit bearing and will include clinical training, didactic teaching and completion of clinical audit. Year One: Core modules (135 credits) and dissertation (30 credits). Year Two: Core modules (135 credits) and dissertation (60 credits).
All students undertake an independent research project in years one and two, which culminates in a dissertation of 13,000–15,000 words.
Teaching and Learning
The programme is delivered through a structured lecture and seminar series, skills laboratory simulation courses, diagnostic clinics, supervised treatment of patients, and a research project. Students are encouraged to develop a range of different vocation-specific and transferable skills. Assessment is by essays, short answer questions, MCQ's, oral examinations, continuous assessment of skills, laboratory and clinical practical work, submitted clinical case reports and research dissertation.

All applicants must normally hold an approved dental qualification and have a minimum of two years' clinical experience post-qualification.
Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate that they meet the required standard by either having recently passed one of the UCL recognised English language tests at the ‘good’ level, or through previous work or education experience in English. There is an overseas demand for dental surgeons who are highly knowledgeable in endodontology and possess a high level of clinical skills in endodontics.
