Graduate
Graduate Life: UCL Union and Sports Facilities
In addition to providing welfare services and representing students' interests and views on College committees and through the National Union of Students, UCL Union also provides a social focus for all students, including opportunities to pursue interests beyond their academic study, to make new friends and simply to relax.
UCL Union supports the activities of a large number of clubs and societies which cater for cultural, sporting, political, academic, artistic and religious interests. Facilities are provided for a wide range of sporting interests (both at competitive and recreational levels); these include: sports grounds at Shenley (with subsidised travel arranged); the Bloomsbury Fitness Centre (adjacent to the main College buildings), housing a fitness suite with cardiovascular and fixed-weight machines, squash courts and a dance studio; and the Somers Town Community Sports Centre, just ten minutes' walk away, with facilities for netball, football, basketball, badminton and many other indoor sports.
UCL Union also provides organised entertainments and services such as shops, bars, photocopying facilities and a hairdresser. The facilities and services of UCL Union are further enhanced by those of the University of London Union (adjacent to UCL), which include a full-size swimming pool.
The Postgraduate Association Executive exists to serve graduate students at several levels: social, academic and welfare. By organising many interesting and exciting social events throughout the academic year, it provides an alternative outlet for graduates.
