All documents must be in English. Translations of documents should be certified as true and original. Only complete applications should be sent to UCL. The absence of any of the required documents will delay the consideration of your application.

Application Form

Before completing the application form, please read UCL’s Graduate School Prospectus and any relevant departmental/institute information - alternatively, see the website.

The application form is available for download in pdf format (a single pdf document also including the references forms and disability & ethnic origin monitoring form - 8 pages)

Complete every section of the form. If you wish to apply for more than one programme, please send a photocopy of your application together with copies of all supporting documentation (except that which is in sealed envelopes).

Passport and name details

All students accepted by UCL must present an original acceptable form of identification
before they can enrol and students will be registered under the name on their
identification document. UCL’s preferred form of identification is a valid passport
and so passport details are sought on the application form.

Acceptable identification varies according to nationality. If you are a national of an EEA country (EU countries plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) or of Switzerland, in the absence of a valid passport other forms of identification will be accepted: photo driving licence, EU Identity card, Armed Forces Identity card, original birth certificate, adoption certificate or certificate of naturalisation.

For all other nationals if you intend to study in the UK for more than six months, you will need a student visa. Under the Points-Based Immigration System (Tier 4), presentation of a valid passport and visa for study at UCL is a mandatory requirement (see student visas below) and no other form of identification will suffice. In all cases the name provided on your application must match your passport or other form of identification and the name on your transcript/diploma supplement. If they are different, proof of the reason for any difference will be required such as a marriage certificate/civil partnership certificate, divorce document, deed poll, adoption certificate or statutory declaration.

Student visas

All applicants are asked to indicate whether they require a student visa to study in the
UK. Information on the Points-Based Immigration System (Tier 4) student visas
is available at: www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/studyingintheuk/quickguideforstudent/adultstudents

References

You must submit with your application form, in signed and sealed ‘Letter of Reference’ envelopes, two UCL reference forms about your suitability to pursue your proposed programme of study from two referees, at least one of whom should, if possible, be a teacher acquainted with your academic ability.

The reference forms are available as part of the single pdf document (also including the application form and disability & ethnic origin monitoring form - 8 pages).

If you have previously studied at a UK university, one of your referees should be a teacher concerned with your studies there. Referees should not be family members or friends.

Transcripts/Diploma Supplement

An original copy of an official transcript/diploma supplement in English, containing details of all the subjects or courses studied, the marks that you
obtained, the qualification that you were awarded (if already complete) and the date
of your studies, should be enclosed in the sealed envelope provided and returned with
your application. Please do not send an irreplaceable document. All documents for
accepted students are electronically stored and the originals are destroyed immediately after enrolment. Documentation for unsuccessful applicants is destroyed after one year.  If you hold General Medical Council/General Dental Council registration
you are not required to send an official transcript. Please provide your registration
number instead.

Disability and Ethnic Origin Monitoring Form

Please complete this and submit with your application form. The disability and ethnic origin monitoring form is available as part of the single pdf document (also including the application form and reference forms - 8 pages).

What Happens After Application

Responses to Applications:

All applications are acknowledged. Provided that your application has been received complete, the acknowledgement letter will state the date by which you should expect to receive a response. This response may take the form of an offer of admission, an invitation to interview, a request for further information or a rejection. The date given will normally be either five weeks after the receipt of your complete application or, where there is a closing date for the programme, five weeks after that closing date.

Enquiries about Applications:

Enquiries about applications should be directed to Admissions. The preferred method of communicating with us is by telephone rather than email or fax. Our experience is that applicants find it easier to explain their queries when they telephone us. If you have received an acknowledgement, please quote your application number when contacting us. If you have not received an acknowledgement within two weeks of having submitted your application, please telephone Admissions.
