Student Houses

These are residences in which students are responsible for providing and cooking their own food and cleaning their own rooms (and common areas if living in flats).

Kitchens are provided in which students may prepare their own food, or meals may be bought from the various food outlets on the UCL Bloomsbury Campus.

Some Student Houses are managed by UCL, some are operated by UNITE and Liberty Living, specialist student housing providers.

Bed linen is not provided, but can be purchased. Students will need to supply their own kitchen utensils. Some of the Houses are large and purpose-built, while others are converted private houses. Places are offered for 40 weeks. All UCL student houses are non-smoking, including student bedrooms.

UCL is about to embark on a new phase of transformation of the Bloomsbury Campus to better meet the needs of students and staff. One of the projects is Wates House, home of The Bartlett which will be undergoing total refurbishment and a large extension, at a cost of over £30m. The project will provide additional space and a completely new environment as a new home for The Bartlett School of Architecture.  Wates House is located immediately adjacent to Campbell House West and works will begin from July 2014, with project completion and the building open for the start of session 2016/17.

These works will, at some times, be noisy and UCL Student Accommodation would like to make prospective residents, particularly of Campbell House West aware of this, prior to accepting their offers. A Transforming UCL website is being developed to support our new period of development and to ensure that staff and students are kept up-to-date with the developments. This will give an overview of all the projects and give guidance on all the frequently asked questions that you might have.  This website can be accessed via the following link: www.ucl.ac.uk/estates-news/transforming-ucl.
