Alternative Accommodation
UCL Student Accommodation is able to offer limited assistance to students seeking privately let flats and lodgings, through suitable agencies and by means of the UCL guarantee scheme. Those students who wish to obtain private lodgings or flats, and those unable to secure a place in UCL or intercollegiate residence, are also advised to contact the University of London Housing Services, whose work is exclusively in the private sector.

The following independent organisations are sometimes able to assist students from UCL. You must contact these places directly and not through the UCL Student Residences Office.
Cass and Claredale Halls of Residence Association Limited Sir John Cass Hall Claredale House Cass and Claredale provides good-value, secure, term-time accommodation to full-time university students studying in London. Two buildings situated in the East End of London. Rooms are non-smoking and offered for a 39-week contract. Cost includes free internet and all bills (gas, water, electricity and insurance). Nearest Tube station is Bethnal Green. Also open for summer trade from mid-June to mid-September. |
Guy Chester Centre Chester House Halls of Residence, Pages Lane, Muswell Hill, London N10 1PR A fully catered international hall of residence, fees include all bills and meals run on Christian
principles and open to 132 students, inclusive of all
nationalities and all religions. Situated in a quiet residential area,
facilities include gym, dance and music studio, tennis court, luggage
store and wireless internet. Nearest underground station is Highgate and
the No. 134 bus goes direct to UCL's Bloomsbury Campus. |
Goodenough College Mecklenburgh Square, London WC1N 2AB Open to full-time postgraduate students from all over the world. In the heart of Central London, Goodenough offers a unique international community with a huge number of extracurricular activities such as clubs, seminars, conferences, sporting activities and cultural events. One building for family accommodation. Tours around the college: every Friday at 1pm and every first Saturday of the month at 11am. |
Hillel House 4 Greenland Place, Camden Town, London NW1 0AP Self-catered kosher accommodation in Golders Green, north-west London, for Jewish students, with easy transport links to UCL. Student Centre close to UCL with kosher catering and facilities for social and cultural events. |
Indian Student YMCA 41 Fitzroy Square, London W1T 6AQ Residential accommodation for all nationalities and all communities. Open to men, women, families, students, teachers and tourists. Facilities include: TV lounge, reading room, recreational room and library/study. |
International Lutheran Student Centre 30 Thanet Street, London, WC1H 9QH
A modern home for international students in central London. Located on a quiet street in Bloomsbury, the Centre provides good facilities and comfortable, moderately priced accommodation for 80 residents. It is intended for full-time postgraduate students, but accommodation for other students and non-students is available during the summer and occasionally at other times. |
International Students' House 229 Great Portland Street, London W1W 5PN Open 365 days a year and located close to both Regent's Park and London's West End, a variety of rooms are available for both British and overseas students: singles, twins, triple and quads. ISH also has flats for married couples and families. |

Netherhall House Nutley Terrace, London NW3 3SA A modern catered hostel for around 90 students. Catholic ethos but open to male students of all faiths. Excellent facilities including library, sports pitch, roof garden, multi-purpose room and music practice areas. A wide range of cultural activities on offer. |
Newman House 111 Gower Street, London WC1E 6AR The Catholic Chaplaincy runs this hostel for about 62 students of the University of London. A variety of spiritual and social activities are available for students throughout the academic year. |
Opal 3 - The Arcade385-401 Holloway Road, London N7 0RY
This well-established hall of 370 bedrooms was refurbished in September 2010. Located within eight minutes’ walk of Holloway Road tube station, The Arcade is well placed for fast and convenient connections to universities around London. The PMU manages 170 bed spaces for students and 15 apartments for visiting academics. Student flats and houses are spread out across London, including one large property of self-catered flats in Finchley and 21 flats for postgraduate couples and families in Gower Street. |
