2018/19 UCL Accommodation Bursary and Hardship Fund

There will be no UCL Accommodation Bursary or Hardship Fund from 2018/19 onwards. A statement on this is available view.

If you are in need of financial support towards accommodation costs, we advise you to contact the Student Funding Office who can advise on other available options.

2017/18 UCL Accommodation Hardship Fund 

The UCL Accommodation Hardship Fund is aimed at all UCL students residing in UCL owned or nominated accommodation for the academic year 2017/18. Nominated accommodation refers to accommodation in Intercollegiate and Private Halls that has been offered via UCL. The hardship fund will provide discretionary financial support towards accommodation costs for residents who find themselves in unexpected financial difficulties.

The fund cannot be used to assist for any other costs under any circumstances and is intended to act as a safety net for those in need, and can help alleviate unexpected financial hardship towards accommodation costs.

Please note: All UCL Accommodation Hardship Fund awards are jointly approved by the Students' Union UCL and UCL.

Value and duration

  • Each award is worth a maximum value of £2,000 per academic year per student. Exact value will vary and depend on individual applications.
  • We are unlikely to be able to provide all the funds you may need, we aim to help eligible students as much as possible within available resources.

Eligibility criteria 

  • You are a current resident in UCL owned or nominated accommodation during the 2017/18 academic year.
  • You have not received an UCL Accommodation Bursary during the 2017/18 academic year.
  • You are able to demonstrate that you have made reasonable and realistic provision at the start of the academic year to fund accommodation costs.
  • You are able to demonstrate and provide evidence that your financial circumstances have unexpectedly and significantly changed now.

Notification and Payment 

All successful applicants who have been awarded a hardship fund have been contacted via email. Due to the large volume of applications, we are unable to offer unsuccessful applicants any further feedback on their individual applications.

Please note: Allocation of these awards is dependent on individual applications. Hence not every eligible UCL Accommodation resident will be granted an award on submission of an application.

2017/18 Accommodation Bursary

The UCL Accommodation Bursary is aimed at all UCL students residing in UCL owned or nominated accommodation for the academic year 2017/18. Nominated accommodation refers to accommodation in Intercollegiate and Private Halls that has been offered via UCL. The bursary will provide discretionary financial support towards accommodation costs for residents most in need of financial assistance. The bursary reflects UCL's commitment to ensuring fair access for every student.

Please note: All UCL Accommodation Bursary awards are jointly approved by the Students' Union UCL, UCL Cut the Rent and UCL.

Value and duration

  • There is a total of £600,000 available for the academic year 2017/18.
  • Each bursary is worth a maximum value of £2,000 per academic year per student. Exact value will vary and depend on financial means testing and individual applications.

UK/EU Undergraduate students

Eligibility criteria

  • You are a full-time UK/EU student who has applied for income-assessed student support (including those provided in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland or via the NHS Grants Unit).
  • You are a current resident in UCL owned or nominated accommodation during the 2017/18 academic year.

Application

There is no application. UCL will automatically assess you and award you an UCL Accommodation Bursary based on financial means testing including level of UCL Undergraduate Bursary been awarded.

Notification and payment

All successful residents who have been awarded a bursary have been contacted via email. Due to the large volume of students, we are unable to notify unsuccessful residents or offer any further feedback on individual circumstances.

Please note: The exact value of the bursary awarded is based on financial means testing.

UK/EU Postgraduate and all International students

Eligibility criteria

  • You are a Postgraduate or International student.
  • You are a current resident in UCL owned or nominated accommodation during the 2017/18 academic year.

Application

Complete the 2017-2018 UCL Accommodation Bursary Application form and submit along with relevant documentation by emailing accommodation.bursary@ucl.ac.uk

Applications must be received by the 31st of January 2018.

All incomplete applications, applications without required documentation and applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

Notification and payment

All successful applicants who have been awarded a bursary have been contacted via email. Due to the large volume of applications, we are unable to notify unsuccessful applicants or offer any further feedback on individual applications.

Please note: Allocation of these bursaries is dependent on individual applications, application numbers and means-testing based on financial need. Hence not every eligible UCL Accommodation resident will be granted a bursary on submission of an application. Bursaries will be awarded only to eligible residents who are most in need of financial assistance towards their accommodation costs.
