What is Kit-Catalogue?
Kit-Catalogue is open-access software, developed by Loughborough University, which has been used to create an online catalogue of UCL research equipment. Researchers can browse and search for specific items and contact the relevant equipment owners directly by email. It can also be used by departments to manage their equipment.
Why was the catalogue created?
All universities were required to create an equipment catalogue as a consequence of the Wakeham 2011 Efficiency Review. All researchers are required to search the catalogue prior to a request of equipment funding. Further guidance can be found on the Research Services page.
What is in the catalogue?
All research equipment and facilities valued over £25,000 currently available at UCL.
Why do you need a UCL log-in?
Your UCL log-in grants you access to see all non-public research equipment contained within the catalogue.
Which items are public?
Any items equipment owners are happy to make accessible to users from outside the UCL community, as facilities or for collaborative purposes, are made public.
I’m not part of UCL and don’t have a log-in, but am interested in collaboration/sharing facilities - what do I do?
Please contact Jacky Pallas for more information and to discuss further options that might be available to you.
Additional information for equipment owners:
What is the role of an equipment owner?
Equipment owners are the individuals responsible for the maintenance and use of their equipment and as such are the primary contacts for any request concerning their equipment. They can edit all details, such as access and visibility of their items, but are not able to upload new items on to Kit-Catalogue.
Is the catalogue strictly limited to equipment over £25,000?
£25,000 is just a starting point for the catalogue. If you have items which you think would be useful for others or equipment which you are happy to share, contact your Department Administrator who will be able upload the details to the UCL Kit-Catalogue website and designate you as an equipment owner of your item.
How can I add my equipment to Kit-Catalogue?
Please contact your Departmental Administrator/Divisional Institute Manager to request that your equipment is added.
Can I use Kit Catalogue to assist with equipment maintenance and inventory reports?
The catalogue grants those with administrative access the option to export lists of equipment in a CSV format. This function can be found under administration options. For administrative level access please contact us.
